Heifer Replacement
In This Section:
When financial pressure is on its vital to maintain and ideally increase production, not something than can be achieved either by reducing feed quality or quantity.
In trying to achieve a larger percentage of heifers calving at a younger age of 22-24 months we must start with the basics by feeding calves correctly using a high protein, low fat milk replacer and to gain extra advantage we can add Fermenten to the calf starter coarse mix and use a follow on feed with a reduced level of Fermenten to maintain advantage.
What is Fermenten? It is a feed additive this is a protein created during the production of Lysine and provides a unique source of amino acids, peptides and non- protein nitrogen.
Heifers fed Fermenten demonstrate a 21% increase in height, a 10% increase in weight and an 18% increase in length.
Theses leaner, taller, “framier” heifers can be bred earlier, come into milk sooner, lose less weight during first lactation and breed again more quickly therefore reducing the cost and numbers in rearing herd replacements.
