Bandon Co-op, proud sponsor at Bandon Agricultural Show

Posted on: 22 May 2017

Bandon Agricultural Show took place on Sunday May 21st and Bandon Co-op were delighted to again be involved in supporting the show and in the sponsorship of a number of livestock classes.

For the second year Bandon Co-op sponsored the prestigious Cork County Super Commercial Young Heifer class.

While Bandon Co-op have been traditionally associated with dairy farming, we also have a strong commitment to the beef sector through the supply of our quality beef feeds which is shown through our sponsorship of this highly competitive class.

The Judges commented afterwards that they were taken aback with the standard of the Cork County Super Commercial Young Heifer class and that no doubt for the rest of the season, the heifers exhibiting at Bandon Show would be setting a very high standard in any other show on the circuit that they would be entered in.

This class, formed by Bandon Show and sponsored by Bandon Co-op is in its second year running. Last year's winner was a heifer from Co. Galway. This year, the winnining prize went to the EI Jaffa owned by R&McGivern of Ballinbrittig, Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork who are noted commercial breeders on a national basis. Their heifer was a charolais cross, one year old that also won the Supreme Interbreed Beef Championship at Bandon Show.

It was acknowledged by the Cattle Committee on the day of the Show that but for Bandon Co-op, it would not have been possible for the show to host such as super class.

Bandon Co-op have a long tradition with supporting the Bandon Show and are also involved in the sponosorship of a Shorthorn and a Friesian class.

The show was very well attended this year and thankfully the weather was great.  It proved to an entertaining day out for adults and children alike.  Congratulations to Bandon Agricultural Show for another very successful event.
