Conical tree with slightly weeping branches and white peeling bark, turning dark at the base over time. Deciduous. Leaves are Light green and triangular. Yellow-brown catkins hang in groups of 3/4 in April and May. Fantastic wildlife value, birds eat the seed of its fruits, but it also attracts a considerable number of insects. Fungi are regularly seen around its base and as a tree it's ideal for underplanting. However, it also offers many benefits as part of a wild hedgerow. Can reach 25m high and 10m wide. Grow in moderately fertile soil in full sun/shade. Suitable for exposed conditions.
