Now that the Christmas decorations are safely stored away it is time to look at our living space with fresh eyes.

This is a good time to take stock of our rooms and possessions and consider how we display them.  Think about

re-arranging paintings, collectibles and photographs, it is amazing how items become highlighted when displayed in a new position.

The new year brings a flurry of colour forecasts which will quickly filter through interior and fashion goods in showrooms and retail.

Dulux  Colour of the Year 2017 is Denim Drift.

Denim Drift is a versatile grey-blue that can be accompanied by tonal blue shades, muted tones, or contrast with rust and gold for a more impact.

Combining Denim Drift and Marine Waters with natural wood in this dining space gives a dramatic and almost rustic ambience. If you are looking for more impact combine with Tin Red, this can work well for studies and north facing rooms.

This year we see the return of warm tones and rich greens.

Classic muted tones such as Nutmeg and Sorbet  can be teamed with the richness of Orgreenic on furniture or a feature wall to create a warm classic look.  This palette will also work alongside Denim Drift and Coastal Grey.  Also the greys of the past season remain as popular as ever and they are the perfect backdrop for adding a broader palette in accessories, painted furniture and feature walls. An array of rich velvet fabric used in these cushion shows the range of colours that can combine very successfully to warm greys tones.

Darker shades of green can give definition to areas.

This office work space is defined by the rich green wall colour coupled with white light fittings in another wise pristine  white space. Spruce up tired white kitchen units by using a deep green tone to frame white kitchen units. By painting windows and island units in darker colours this becomes a classic  timeless space.

Colour company Pantone has revealed a zesty shade of green as its colour of the year for 2017.

Naming this colour greenery it is typical of colour in the foliage surrounding us. Pantone describes it as “tangy Yellow-green

This shade of green can invoke panic in many but don’t be alarmed as there are many ways to use green without being overwhelmed. When used wisely it can be both dramatic and soothing.

This Kerry landscape shows us the way nature blends greenery with an array of  shades of green, blue, purple and brown.  Sometimes we only have to look around us for true inspiration. The fresh green of nature can help us to respond to the stress and tensions of our world.

When purchasing new furniture or fabrics explore interesting styles and fabrics to make a statement in your home. This fabric by Harlequin introduces the blue and green palette and would look sensational with paints used above, Marine Waters, Orgreenic, Denim Drift and a zesty green.

Use interesting lamps as features and soft lighting to highlight paintings and beloved objects whilst creating a calm, restful space.
