How to Paint Outdoor Wood

SURFACE PREPARATION:


Proper surface preparation is crucial to maximum finish performance. The durability of this product can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface. Surfaces must be clean, dry and sound before painting.

 

  • Remove any flaking varnish or paint.
  • Lightly sand with fine sandpaper
  • Remove dust

 

APPLICATION OF PRIMER:


The primer recommended will be dictated by the surface on which you are preparing. For timber with knots, bleeding etc., a primer with blocking ability such as Prime 1 or 3 is essential.


APPLICATION OF TOP COAT:

 

  • Choose between Colourtrend Woodcoat, Eggshell, Satin or Gloss in your desired colour.
  • Can be applied with brush, roller or spray
  • Apply one coat of chosen colour and finish
  • Allow to dry (recoat in 6-8 hours depending on drying conditions)
  • Apply second coat of chosen colour and finish
  • Allow to dry

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

 

  • Sugar Soap or Degreaser
  • Cloths
  • Fine sandpaper
  • Brush and/or roller
  • Colourtrend Prime 1 or 3.
  • Colourtrend Undercoat
  • Colourtrend paint in the colour and finish of your choice
