DO THIS

Bulbs

Plant spring flowering bulbs now. There are bulbs to bring you all the way from January through to June. Layering different types of bulbs in large pots is a great way to provide interest for several months. Always start with the largest bulb at the bottom. For example, starting about half way down the pot place some tulip bulbs, cover with a couple of inches of good gritty compost. Follow with a layer of narcissi bulbs and finish with a layer of crocus. This combination will flower from February through to may. You’ll find a lovely selection of West Cork Bulbs in our stores now.

I am all about the berries at this time of the year! They can range from rose hips to crab apples, but one thing’s for sure, they add a fantastic dimension to the autumn garden. Symphoricarpos ‘Magical Pink’ or snowberry, smothered in clusters of pink berries, is looking particularly pretty at the moment. It will grow happily in full sun to partial shade and most soil types. Reaching a height and spread of 1.5m in about 10 years. The flowers in summer are tiny but scented and loved by bees. Prune in March/April.
